Romania is the most important destination to observe the brown bears. With approximately 6,000 bears, Romania has the largest population of bears in Europe. From spring to late autumn, Romanian Carpathians offer excellent opportunities to observe and photograph the brown bear (Ursus arctos). You will observe the brown bear from one of our wooden observatories, with comfortable  chairs, windows, camera viewfinders and beds, located in Carpathians. This is a unique experience, offering often the most rewarding results,  being closer than you think, just 3 hours from Bucharest.

The main attractions

Day 1 Bucharest - Focsani - Lepsa

servicii9-bigWe start the tour in Bucharest, capital of Romania or in Focsani. Upon arrival at the Bucharest airport or Focsani train station, you’ll meet a local guide that will accompany you throughout the holiday. We will travel to Lepşa village, located in the Eastern Carpathians, just 3 hours of Bucharest and only an hour from the city of Focsani. Lepşa tourist village is located on the border between Moldova and Transylvania, here we will stay in a traditional guest house and we enjoy a traditional Romanian dinner. Upon arrival in Lepşa, we will meet to make a brief summary of the tour then you are invited to relax in order to be prepared to encounter bears and explore the virgin forests of the Carpathians.

Day 2 Lepsa - Tisița Gorges - Observatory

Ursus arctosEarly in the morning, after we eat breakfast, we will be ready to follow the tracks of the bear and other large mammals in the forests of the Carpathians. We will have a chance to see traces of bears and wolves paths entering in the mountain wilderness and near human settlements. We will install together camera traps in order to capture images of  the wildlife in the area. In the afternoon we return to the guesthouse and take lunch. In the evening we go to see bears from an observatory, with a 4 x 4 car (30 minutes) where we have the chance to observe and photograph bears safely. In this place bears come very close to our observatory, so you will be sure that you will take good photographs and have a unique experience. Some nights were counted over 5 bears. We will spend the night here to increase the chance to see the bears and also in the morning that comes.

Day 3 Observatory – Lepsa vilage – Observatory

Before sunrise we have breakfast and we will observe and photograph the bears that come in the morning at the observatory. We go to lunch at the guesthouse  where we are waited a to enjoy a delicious meal. We’ll rest a few hours after the meal in order to be prepared to see bears and other animals that will appear in another observatory.

In the evening, when we return from the observatory, we will start with a 4×4 pick up car equipped with powerful light projectors, to observe and photograph animals that have a predominantly nocturnal activity like: raptors, bears and other species of carnivores. After the hours spent observing the density and diversity of species living in the primeval forests of the Carpathians, we go to hostel, and think about the experiences spent in this tour.
